225° Gimbal
The DJI Mini 5 Pro's rotating camera supports roll-axis rotation, allowing for angle adjustments during filming for more flexible camera movements.

You can control this feature manually or activate it automatically using the QuickShots intelligent flight mode.


Manual Gimbal Control
To use this feature, you must first set a shortcut button to control the gimbal's infinite roll.

Launch "DJI Fly". Go to Controls > Button Customization.

The DJI Mavic 4 Pro's rotating camera supports roll axis rotation, allowing for angle adjustments during filming for more flexible camera movements.

You can control this feature manually or activate it automatically using an intelligent flight mode called QuickShots.


Manual Control of the Infinity Gimbal

To use this feature, you must first set a shortcut button to control the gimbal's infinite roll.

Launch "DJI Fly". Go to Controls > Button Customization.

Select the button you want to customize and select "Roll Stabilizer".

By default, you can control the 360° roll by pressing the customizable C1 button and rotating the Right Dial on the remote controller.

QuickShots Automatic Control

If you prefer to use this shooting technique automatically, you can use the intelligent flight mode "Rotate".

Let's see how to do it.

1. In DJI Fly, select Quickshots and then Rotate.

By selecting this option, the drone takes a frontal trajectory (by default) while recording a video by rotating the camera.

2. Customize the aerial shot by adjusting the Direction, Rotation Angle, Rotation Speed and Flight Speed.

3. Start shooting by tapping the START button.

4. Once the operation is finished, the drone will stop in place.

Warning: Based on the parameters entered, consider the surrounding space so that the drone does not encounter obstacles during flight.

You can exit Quickshot at any time by tapping the recording button (X) in DJI Fly, or the Flight Pause button on the remote controller.

Thanks to the introduction of the Vision Assist (DJI Mavic 3 serie, DJI Air 3 serie, DJI Mini 4 Pro) you will be able to monitor live what the visual system cameras see and therefore, during the flight, you will be able to see any nearby obstacles on the display.

After taking off and if the video transmission signal is strong, you can switch to the Vision Assist view.

Tap the Map > Tap at the bottom left to switch to the Attitude Indicator > Tap again to switch to Vision Assist.


When an obstacle is detected in the current viewing direction, a colored collision warning will appear.

The color of the warning (yellow or red) is determined by the distance between the obstacle and the drone.

If you want to “zoom in” on the “Vision Assist view”, tap the center of the screen.

When the drone is moving, the “Vision Assist” automatically changes according to the direction the drone is going.

In this mode, it is normal to see the propellers in the frame; this is just a reference view.

Don’t worry about the quality of the display because it may change depending on the speed of the drone.

You can also tap any directional arrow to change the direction of the “Vision Assist” for a while before returning to the view of the current flight direction.

If you want to lock a certain view, press and hold the reference arrow.

This way you will always see from this point of view even if the drone changes flight direction.


Warnings
I remind you that glass, walls and small objects such as tree branches, electrical wires and kite strings cannot be viewed accurately.

The Field of View of the vision-assist detection in all directions is limited.

It is normal to see no obstacles in your field of view during a collision warning.

The practical sessions of the DJI Academy | UTC courses have begun.

After a first day dedicated to deepening the best photographic techniques and the technical and aesthetic principles of aerial photography, we then looked to the sky to put into practice flight maneuvers and advanced shooting techniques to always get the most out of our photographic shots or aerial video shots.

We've seen how to post-produce multiple exposure shots, how to manage exposure levels, and how to use masks in Photoshop to manage lights and colors.

We analyzed the different color profiles, applied Lut to the video clips and learned the basics of color correction with Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

Technique and creativity were alternated during the lessons.


After planning the aerial shots working on a short script, the students were able to put all the notions learned into practice on the airfield.

Photo composition.

The students created personalized photographic compositions and a video edited with their own aerial shots.

Two exciting days to finalize the course of study that allowed our students to obtain the DJI Academy | UTC certificate which is internationally recognized.

The color submenu lets you to choose between different color profiles that allow you to get a different color acquisition method.
 
Here you can choose between: Normal, D-Log and HLG profile.

Normal – This can be used with H.264 encoding format and for the most part, it looks nice and can be shared without processing. If you are not a video editing powerhouse, consider using the H.264 codec in normal color mode to obtain good color performance.
 
The 10-bit Dlog-M (Discrete Logarithmic Method) color profile generates a higher dynamic range and deeper colors for both videos and photographs. It can only be used with H.265 codec, and requires processing.
 
With this profile the aircraft is able to record more than 1 billion colors, to let you fully immerse yourself in all the hues of your environment.
 
Experienced video editors prefer this super-flat (less sharpness, contrast, and saturation) color profile as a starting point because Dlog keeps more data in each frame, giving the editor more to work with.
 
HLG (Hybrid Logarithmic-Gamma) color profile is something akin to shooting a video with (HDR) High Dynamic Range.  It can only be used with the H.265 codec and requires processing.

Encoding Format: H.2-6-5 and H.2-6-4 are two different ways that the drone can compress your videos.
 
You don't need to understand video compression, just use H.2-6-5 if you want better video quality.
 
If you don't have a fast computer, or if your editing software doesn't support H.2-6-5, use H.2-6-4.

Hello and Welcome to this tutorial.
 
Today I will show you how you can take 2 shots in one shot using your DJI Pocket devices with one hand.
 
Let's find out how!
 
EQUIPMENT

To make these video shots I used a tripod adapter for Osmo Pocket, a DJI Osmo Pocket and a DJI Pocket 2, a dual camera support (or a double handle / dual handle grip, of those used for electronic stabilizers), to which we will attach the two cameras, nonetheless depending on the type of attachment you may need screw adapters, and finally one or more handles to connect to the dual camera support.
You can find the list and all the links to the products at the bottom of the description.

Now we need to mount the two Pocket devices at the two opposite ends of the bracket and screw the handle and a mini tripod.

 
We are ready to film!



If you need to film yourself you can connect the bracket to a tripod.
 
Thanks to the zoom function of the DJI Pocket 2 we can simultaneously frame an object in full shot and in close-up.

Thanks to the Activetrack function, the camera will never lose sight of our objective (target).

Now let's screw the handle back in to make two hand shots at once.
 
We can follow a moving subject or a person who is speaking. We can conduct interviews filming 2 subjects at the same time. For example, ourselves and another person.

Or we can simply photograph our close-up and our first person view.
 
Don't forget to activate Activetrack or Facetrack to always be in the center of the frame.

Welcome to this new article in which we will check the compatibility of Pocket 2 with the different microphone connectors.
 
TYPES OF CONNECTORS JACK
 
There are 3 types of microphone jack connectors on the market: TS, TRS and TRRS. The T stands for TIP, the R stands for RING and the S stands for SLEEVE.
 
The difference between the 3 connectors lies in the type of audio signal that they can transmit and they are distinguished by the number of contacts (TIP) on the end of the Jack.
 
A TS connector, has two conductors and transmits a mono signal.
 
A TRS connector, has an extra ring and has 3 conductors. This allows you to transmit a stereo signal on two channels: left and right.
 
A TRRS connector has two extra rings and therefore has 4 conductors. For this reason it offers two stereo channels and one mono channel for the microphone.
 
This type of connector is in fact what we often use for the headphones / microphone of our smartphone
 
The DJI Pocket 2 is compatible with all 3 types of connections.

Today we will test the quality of the audio recorded using an external microphone with the DJI Pocket 2.
 
The Pocket 2 captures audio in an incredible way.
 
You can take advantage of the 4 internal microphones to capture immersive and dynamic audio or you can use the multi-purpose handle (All DO it handle) to connect an external microphone.
 
An external microphone is mainly useful when you need to record a person's speech.
 
In this video we will test the captured audio in 3 different ways:
 
a. We will use the external microphone by connecting it directly to the All DO it handle.
 
b. We will use the wifi transmitter microphone connected to the All DO it handle.
 
c. And finally we will connect an external microphone to the wifi transmitter microphone connected to the All do it handle.

CONCLUSIONS

In my opinion, the best option to capture the audio of a voice coming from a source far from the DJI Pocket 2, is to use the wifi transmitter microphone, although it is not very beautiful from an aesthetic point of view.
 
If you are using the internal microphone to record the voice of a person placed in front of the camera, I recommend that you set the "FRONT" option in the audio settings. In this way Pocket 2 will capture the audio coming only from the front.
 
If you want to use an external lavalier microphone and get professional, or at least appreciable results, I recommend that you record the audio on an external recorder.
 
As you could see and hear, using an external microphone allows you to capture cleaner audio.
Depending on your needs, you can take advantage of one of the 3 solutions offered by the DJI multipurpose handle (DJI all DO it handle).

Hello and welcome to this new article! Today I will show you the difference between a Timelapse video, a Motionlapse video and a Hyperlase video.

In most DJI devices (drones or Camera Gimbal) you can make shots where time seems to run fast by taking a sequence of images at a regular time interval.

This technique is called Timelapse.

TIMELAPSE

 
Usually a Timelapse video is a static video, in which the device is stationary in place and captures the passage of time by transforming hours into seconds.
Example of timelapse
You can capture within a few seconds of video, the cycle of a sunset, the crowd flowing frantically through the streets of a metropolis, the bright trails of cars hurtling through the city at night.

MOTIONLAPSE
A Motionlapse video is like a Timelapse video, with the difference that the camera pans in place following a predefined path.
 
The DJI Pocket 2 (or Osmo Pocket) is perfect for making this type of shot.

In this mode it is recommended to use a photographic tripod, so that the recovery is stable over time.

HYPERLAPSE
Unlike Motionlapse, when making a Hyperlapse video the camera captures a sequence of images while it is moving.
In other words, a Hyperlapse is just like a Timelapse, but with a border range of motion.
Example of Hyperlapse
You can make a Hyperlapse sequence while with your drone or while you are moving with your camera.

SETTINGS
After setting the Timelapse, Hyperlapse or Motionlapse mode on the DJI device or the App, you can set the shooting time and the time interval between one shot and the next. The device or app will automatically calculate the duration of the final shot.

For example, with an 8-second shooting interval and a 30-minute shooting time, you'll get a 7-second video.

 
To summarize:
 
To make a timelapse video, the camera is stationary in place.
 
To make a Motionlapse video, the camera is stationary in place but performs a pan movement.
 
To achieve a Hyperlapse sequence, the camera is moving.

A timelapse shot shows you the accelerated passage of time, by transforming hours into seconds you can film the sunset, the passing of clouds, or the wake of cars at night.

The MINI 2 does not have an automatic Timelapse feature, but the TIMESHOT function which allows you to capture images at regular time intervals.

TIMESHOT will allow the drone to take a sequence of images at a regular time interval.

A few days ago I made a photo composition using the DJI Mini 2 and I must say that the photo was very successful on Facebook.
I'll tell you how I did it.

After choosing the location, I thought about how to position myself.

I hovered the drone about 10 meters high and took a DNG + JPEG photograph for each position of my body.

I imported the images into Photoshop and overlaid the layers.
I aligned the layers, I cleaned up the images and I adjusted the perspective.

27 September 2018 – DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, has launched the UTC (Unmanned Aerial Systems Training Center) in Europe. The programme is  designed to provide individual and commercial drone operators with professional training in the classroom and in the field. The European UTC Program will start in the Netherlands on two campuses offering two curriculums: A curriculum dedicated to aerial photography and a curriculum dedicated to industrial inspection. The two campuses are located at Space53 in Enschede and at DFC in Hoofddorp and will be run by local training partner Drone Flight Academy.

“Many industries benefit from utilizing drone technology in Europe and globally. DJI wants to help businesses to benefit from drone technology, not just through our hardware and software solutions, but also through education and empowerment,” said Barbara Stelzner, Director of Corporate Communication at DJI EMEA.

As interest around aerial technology continues to grow and with more enterprises adopting drones for their workflow, the goal of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Training Center is to establish a global industry standard, so that professionals and enterprises can take advantage of this amazing technology. The UTC programme will address drone applications across different industries and help businesses complete tasks safer, faster and with greater efficiency than ever before.  

The aerial photography curriculum will include the operational know-how (e.g. basic UAS regulations, product knowledge, flight planning and operational best practices) as well as the creative aspect (e.g. camera knowledge, aerial photography techniques and the post-production process).

The industrial inspection curriculum will empower participants with the technical and operational know-how as well as hands-on experience in inspection scenarios of infrastructures, power lines, solar panels, bridge structures and power plants.

At the end of each course participants will need to complete a knowledge and flight test. Once they have  successfully passed the tests, they will receive a certificate from UTC. Due to the cooperation with Drone Flight Academy, the participants will additionaly receive the Remotely Piloted Aircraft License issued by the Civil Aviation Authority and required for commercial drone pilots in The Netherlands.

The UTC curriculums and contents were designed by DJI with input from industry experts. Drone Flight Academy will carry out the training in the classroom and in the field with special emphasis on local applications. DJI will also work closely with Drone Flight Academy to ensure quality and consistency of the programme and expand the UTC curriculums into other verticals in the near future.

As demand for DJI's aerial imaging technology continues to grow, the UTC programme will empower professionals and companies with the necessary knowledge and skills they need to become faster and more efficient in their line of work. The programme will also help to nurture a new pool of talent and bring new business opportunities, especially in the areas of surveying, construction, inspection and public safety. DJI and its partners look forward to working with professionals and enterprises in Europe to grow the UAS ecosystem and bring drone technology to different industries.

Since its inception in China in 2016, the UTC programme has been set up in more than 150 campuses in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Malaysia and trained more than 25,000 UAS application professionals.

4 Aerial Photography Tips for Shooting in Sunrise and Sunset


Greetings! Sunset and sunrise are my absolute favorite times to fly. Here in Albuquerque sunrise and sunset can transform a fairly boring skyline into something truly amazing! Many photographers talk about the beauty of the golden hours , for me its more like a fiery 15 minutes!

1. Practice with Preflight Preparation!

if you see light you want to capture and your not already in the air its probably too late. that is unless you practice getting out and ready very quickly! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve missed the shot i was looking for by less than a minute.

2. Filter or No Filter

ND filters and Polarizers can be very helpful for sunrise and sunset photography, the shot above was taken with a ND4+PL to help isolate the sunrays. filters are like sunglasses for your camera, can increase color saturation and reduce glare. 3. Get to know ISO and Shutter Speed

ISO determines how sensitive the camera sensor is to light. the higher the ISO setting the brighter the image is, but with high ISO comes noise. its important to find a balance between not enough light and too much noise
Shutter speed is how long the shutter is open to allow light to the camera sensor. slow exposure allows more light to enter the camera , but can cause blur if the camera or subject is moving. fast exposure allows less light but can get sharper images because the photograph is taken quickly and usually is less prone to blur.

4. Single Shot, HDR or Bracketing?

For sunrise and sunset photography dynamic range is very important. The sky will be very bright and the ground will be dark. HDR is a happy medium between a single shot and bracketing. HDR takes three photos to extend the dynamic range past what the camera can natively capture in a single image. Bracketing can take 3 or 5 photos to extend even more dynamic range. the down side is management of multiple images can be difficult, the images have to combined in a photo editor and if its a windy day or your bump the control sticks it can cause ghosting in the image.

Jambo to Everyone,

In this post I would link to share with you my experience at Watamu (Kenya) a wonderful town in a wonderful sea place. Here I met Sue Hayward founder oh Happy House, Children of Watamu.

Happy House is a charity project and Sue wanted to create a real family home for children in need, the forgotten children, from Watamu and beyond.

Sue needed to tell her story. I stayed there with my camera and I said to here: “Why not! Here I’m!” I started immediately to work.

It was an incredible experience, real and exiting. Some children helped me to take picture and shootings. Looking at their eyes was like looking the true of life.

Sue Hayward, Mama Sue to her family, has devoted more than 16 years of her life to making a difference to the vulnerable children of Watamu.
